Previously, Miller was the founding Executive Director of the Sutphin Boulevard Business Improvement District and of KECDE!, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing the arts to community youth through dance. Miller was also the project director for the Downtown Jamaica Cultural District and a community organizer for the Laurelton Local Development Corporation.

Starting his career in television in 1983 as the host of a show dubbed "Fresh", a local youth public affairs show for WRC-TV, Mr. Porter as had a successful career in television and as On Air Talent for various radio stations that span decades and continues today. His baritone voice was so revered that he served as the NBA Announcer for All-Star games from 1994-2003. From 1990 to 2000 he served as BET-Program Director/Music Video Consultant, Staff Announcer and On-Air Talent. From there he worked for AOL as their music consultant before starting his own successful ventures.

Over a span of 17 years, Dre drew 175 installments of the groundbreaking cartoon. “A few people, including DJ Quik, Rakim and the dudes from X-Clan, took offense to my drawings, but most hip-hop artists understood it was just a joke. The late rapper Heavy D., once admitted that ‘The Last Word’ was the first thing
he looked at in the magazine.
